Portsmouth NH Engagement Session | Associate Team | Carly + Nick

Carly and Nick’s Portsmouth NH engagement session was such a fun reminder that photoshoots do not have to feel overly serious or perfectly posed to turn out beautifully. The two of them were constantly laughing together throughout the session, which made everything feel relaxed and natural. Since this was their first professional photoshoot together, there were definitely a few moments at the beginning where Nick seemed a little unsure about being in front of the camera, but by the end of the session, both of them were fully leaning into it and having fun with the experience.

Carly is a third grade teacher in Greenland, so we spent part of the session talking about the unpredictable world of elementary school students and some of the funny moments that come with teaching kids all day long. Nick works as a mechanic specializing in Jaguar vehicles, and it was fun hearing a little bit about what both of their day-to-day lives look like.

The two originally met during their freshman year at Roger Williams University. After freshman year, Nick transferred to mechanic school right around the time they had started dating. At the beginning of sophomore year, they decided to give long distance a chance, and they have been together ever since. I always think stories like that are so impressive because college can already feel like such a transitional time in life, and adding a new relationship that’s long distance is not easy. Sometimes, though, when you find the right person, things just seem to work out the way they are supposed to.

Now, the two of them live in downtown Portsmouth with their lab, Otto. They love trying new restaurants and spending time going out together, while also making time for their own hobbies too. Nick enjoys fishing, and Carly loves spending time at different beaches during the summer months. Fittingly, Nick proposed to Carly at a special beach, just the two of them, that had a sweet heart in the sand.

Watching the two of them interact throughout the session made it easy to see how comfortable they are together. Even when a pose may have initially felt awkward, they were able to laugh through it and make it their own.

Carly and Nick are getting married this September in Hampton with a beach ceremony followed by a reception at The 935. I’m already looking forward to seeing them again so soon and getting to capture another exciting day for the two of them!
