Some couples have a story that feels like it was quietly unfolding long before they realized it. Allison and James met in high school, but it wasn’t until later that their friendship turned into something more. And now, years later, they’re planning a life together and I had the absolute joy of photographing this season of their story.
Allison and James are both first responders, so there’s something really special about the way they balance one another. Their lives are busy, their work is meaningful, and they spend so much of their time caring for other people. But when we met for their engagement session at Great Island Commons, it was clear how easy it is for them to simply be together.
We met on a beautiful August day that happened to be a little cloudy. The kind of New England summer weather that gives you soft, even light and makes everything feel a little more relaxed. There was actually a volleyball tournament happening on the beach that day, complete with THREE courts and plenty of activity happening around us!
Thankfully, Great Island Commons has enough space that we were able to find a quieter area away from the crowds. And honestly? It ended up being perfect. We had room to walk, explore, and let the session unfold naturally without worrying about everything happening around us.
Their Great Island Commons engagement session felt like a glimpse into that life. It wasn’t about creating something overly posed or perfect. It was about capturing the way they naturally interact, the way they laugh together, and the comfort that comes from knowing someone for so long.
There’s something pretty special about marrying someone who knew you before the rest of your adult life had even begun. Allison and James started out knowing each other in high school, went their separate ways for a while, and eventually found their way to each other. Now they’re building a life together and I can’t wait to see where this next chapter takes them.
